The First Step
In 2008, we stepped into the narrow lanes of underserved communities and urban slums, where we encountered a reality that changed us forever. We saw children at traffic signals and on footpaths, asking strangers for alms instead of carrying school bags. We met children who spent their days working, wandering the streets, or helping their families survive—children who longed to learn but were held back by poverty, lack of opportunities, and limited awareness about the importance of education.
Behind every child was a story of hardship. Many had never entered a classroom. Others had dropped out because their families could not afford even the most basic school supplies or believed education was beyond their reach. We realised that these children were not lacking talent or dreams—they were simply lacking an opportunity.
That moment became the turning point in our lives. We knew that change would not come by waiting for someone else. It would begin with us taking the first step.
And that first step became Pehal Sanstha.
From Seven People to a Movement
What started with just seven passionate young people teaching children in slum communities has grown into a movement dedicated to ensuring that no child is deprived of education because of poverty or circumstance. We began by visiting homes, speaking with parents, counselling families, encouraging school enrolment, and supporting children with whatever they needed to continue their education.
Over the years, we realised that education cannot flourish where hunger exists, where children lack school supplies, or where families struggle to meet their basic needs. This understanding inspired us to create holistic programmes that provide nutritious meals, school essentials, academic support, mentorship, and safe learning spaces where children can grow with confidence and dignity.
The Children Who Keep Us Going
Every child we meet reminds us why we started. Some are the first in their family to attend school. Some walk long distances every day just to learn. Others have overcome unimaginable hardships simply to remain in a classroom. Their resilience inspires us, and their success strengthens our resolve.
Today, Pehal Sanstha is more than an organisation—it is a community of volunteers, educators, donors, and changemakers united by one belief:
Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, dream, and build a better future.
The Road Ahead
Our journey is far from over. Thousands of children are still waiting for someone to believe in them, encourage them, and help unlock their potential.
With every child we educate, every family we empower, and every classroom we strengthen, we move one step closer to an India where education is not a privilege, but a promise fulfilled for every child.
That is the story of Pehal Sanstha. And with your support, the next chapter can change thousands more lives.
