Why Infrastructure Is Never “Just” Infrastructure
Ask a teacher what stands between her students and their potential, and she will rarely begin with the curriculum.
She will talk about forty children in a room built for twenty-five. The cupboard with no lock, so teaching aids travel home in her own bag. The library that is a carton of donated books under the stairs. The classroom so dim by late afternoon that reading aloud is the only option left.
Across the schools we work with, the same pattern repeats:
●Attention follows comfort. A child who is not squeezed, straining or aching can concentrate for a full
●Attendance follows dignity. Children return to places where they feel welcome, and where they are
●Teaching follows resources. Seating, storage, boards and materials let a good teacher become an
●Confidence follows belonging. A cared-for classroom tells a child, before a single word is spoken,
Under-resourced schools are almost never short of commitment. Their teachers show up, improvise, and give far more than their salaries ask of them. What they lack is infrastructure — and that is a solvable problem. Solving it is one of the highest-return investments anyone can make in a child’s life.
Our Approach
We do not arrive with a fixed template. Every school is assessed on its own terms, alongside the people who know it best.
1. Listen and assess. We visit with the principal, teachers and community, and document what is
genuinely missing rather than what is easiest to give.
2. Rebuild the space. Renovation of classrooms, flooring, walls, lighting, ventilation, sanitation and
safety, so the building itself supports learning.
3. Equip the learning. Student desks and chairs, teacher furniture, library racks and books, storage,
teaching aids, digital learning facilities and stationery kits.
4. Sustain the change. Formal handover to the school and community, follow-up visits and maintenance
planning, so the transformation outlasts the project.
5. Report transparently. Documented baselines, photographs, utilisation records and impact reporting
for every partner who funds the work.
We work with government schools, school management, local communities, CSR partners, foundations and educational institutions — because lasting change is never delivered to a community. It is built with one.
CSR Partnerships in Action
The transformation of our premises has not been the work of one organisation alone. It has been built, piece by piece, by partners who chose to invest in children they may never meet. The sections that follow document each of those partnerships — what was provided, what changed, and what it now means for a child walking through the gate each morning.
1. Angara E-Commerce Pvt. Ltd. — Furniture, Nutrition and Learning Materials
Transforming Bhawani Shiksha Niketan Senior Secondary School. The school is a rented property where Pehal Sanstha conducts its educational programmes.
The ground floor of Bhawani Shiksha Niketan (BSN) was doing its best. Classrooms were tired, seating was insufficient and uncomfortable, storage was scarce, and learning materials had to be rationed. Teachers taught well in spite of the room rather than because of it. And many children came to school hungry — hunger stands between a child and a lesson more stubbornly than almost anything else.
Through its Corporate Social Responsibility commitment, Angara E-Commerce Pvt. Ltd. partnered with Pehal Sanstha to change that — not with a single donation, but with a coordinated intervention across space, nutrition and learning materials. Angara generously contributed the classroom and teaching furniture that forms the backbone of our learning spaces today: colourful student seating and writing desks, dedicated teacher furniture, secure storage units and library racks.
Children now walk into classrooms that are bright, organised and built for them. Teachers plan lessons around what the room makes possible, instead of working around what it lacks. And the children who once shared one bench between three have a seat of their own.

2. Contree Foundation and Genpact — Transforming Walls into Learning Spaces
With the support of Contree Foundation, in partnership with Genpact, the damaged and uneven classroom walls were repaired and improved by applying Plaster of Paris (POP), giving the rooms a cleaner, smoother and more welcoming appearance.
The renovated walls were then transformed with colourful, child-friendly educational paintings and illustrations. Images of alphabets, numbers, animals, fruits, shapes, nature and other learning concepts turned ordinary walls into engaging visual-learning tools.
This initiative did much more than beautify the classrooms. It created cheerful and stimulating spaces where children feel excited to enter, participate, explore and learn. The colourful images encourage curiosity, support visual learning, and help young children understand and remember concepts more effectively.
Through this meaningful collaboration, Contree Foundation and Genpact helped transform plain and neglected rooms into lively classrooms filled with colour, imagination and opportunity.
Every colourful wall now speaks to a child — inviting them to observe, imagine, learn and dream.
WHAT THE INTERVENTION INVOLVED
●Structural repair. Cracked, damp and uneven wall surfaces were stripped back, levelled and finished
●Surface finishing. Rooms were primed and repainted, correcting years of peeling paint and water
●Educational wall art. Alphabets, numerals, planets, seasons, colour mixing, body parts, fruits,
vegetables and career aspirations were hand-painted in English and Hindi.
●Employee volunteering. Genpact volunteers worked alongside our team and the children
themselves, making the transformation a shared experience rather than a delivery.
3. Rotary Club Jaipur — Building Our Digital Classroom
Rotary Club Jaipur came forward with a contribution that reshaped how learning happens in our premises. Alongside a generous donation of snacks and stationery for the children, the Club donated a Smart Television — and it is this single piece of equipment that made our digital classroom possible.
With the Smart TV installed, children now watch curated educational content: animated lessons, science demonstrations, story-based learning, phonics, rhymes and general-knowledge programmes. For many of these children, it is the first time a lesson has ever moved, spoken or shown them something beyond the walls of their classroom.
The change in learning outcomes has been immediate and visible. Visual learning has strengthened comprehension, particularly for younger children and for those who struggle with text-heavy instruction. Concepts that once required repeated explanation are now understood in a single viewing, and children retain them far longer because they have seen them, not only heard them. Attention spans have lengthened, participation has increased, and memory retention has improved noticeably across age groups.

Our Journey in Pictures
The photographs below document our premises across the full arc of the transformation — from bare, unfinished rooms to the bright, resourced and digitally equipped learning spaces our children walk into today. Together they record what was, what it took, and what now stands in its place.
BEFORE Children learning on the floor in an unfinished room — bare cement walls, no furniture, no storage and no learning aids.

The Classrooms Still Waiting
Bhawani Shiksha Niketan is one school. Across India, thousands more are managing with cracked floors, broken furniture and empty shelves — and behind every one of them is a specific child, with a specific ambition, waiting for a room that can hold it.
We know how to fix this. The work is neither complicated nor slow. What it requires is partners.
There are several ways to build a school with us:
●Adopt a classroom or a school for end-to-end transformation.
●Fund a specific component — furniture, libraries, digital learning spaces, sanitation or safety
●Contribute through CSR, foundation grants, employee giving or in-kind support.
●Volunteer professional skills in design, construction, education or technology.
Every classroom you transform becomes a place where curiosity is allowed.
Every desk you provide becomes a seat for a future doctor, teacher, engineer, artist or leader.
Every library you help build opens a door that stays open for life.
Every school you strengthen becomes a beacon of hope for an entire community.
Join hands with Pehal Sanstha to create learning spaces where every child is seen, every teacher is empowered, and every dream has room to grow. Because the schools we build today are the generations we meet tomorrow.
